Hamilton Cams 07-S-009T: Valve Springs with retainers, 24 valve w/ titanium retainers - Diesel engines running higher rpm, increased boost/drive pressures, or a more aggressive cam often experience valve float, which can cause serious damage to the valvetrain. Also, the intake and exhaust valves can be blown open by higher boost and exhaust drive pressures creating reversion, which reduces power by allowing exhaust gas to enter the cylinder on the intake stroke. The re-introduced exhaust gas shields the fuel particles from oxygen, increases the delay from the start of injection to combustion, decreases the maximum pressure and temperature in the cylinder, and lengthens the time needed to completely burn the fuel. Correct valve spring pressure is very important to power production. Upgraded valve springs allow higher boost pressures and rpm without valve float or unacceptable levels of reversion. Hamilton Cams valve spring and retainer kits with single valve springs and tool steel retainers typically work well up to 4,500 rpm with moderate-lift camshafts and OEM-size valves. However, there comes a point as rpm, valve lift, spring pressures, and valve sizes increase, that a single spring is no longer up to the task of controlling the valves. This is when it is time to use Hamilton Cams kits with dual valve springs and, for the highest lobe lifts, titanium retainers.Note: As a precautionary measure, titanium retainers should be inspected after every season for excessive wear.
